SUMMARY:Homage 5: Life After Death
DESCRIPTION:BROOKLYN STAND UP! \n\n\n\nStep into the world of Brooklyn’s finest with Homage 5: Life After Death\, a new workshop production by acclaimed playwright Shaun Neblett. Inspired by the legendary Notorious B.I.G.’s iconic album of the same name\, this production is a nod to the spirit and grit of Biggie’s music. \n\n\n\nJoin us as we journey through the streets of Brooklyn alongside five young black men navigating the complexities of life in their twenties. Centered around a barbershop owned by the enigmatic Freddie Bratcher\, tensions rise as rumors swirl about the potential sale of the business\, testing loyalties and friendships to the limit. \n\n\n\nInfused with Biggie’s timeless lyrics and themes\, Homage 5 immerses audiences in a world where the echoes of “Ten Crack Commandments” reverberate with ominous truth\, and where the mantra “Sky’s the Limit” serves as both a beacon of hope and a stark reminder of harsh realities. But Homage 5 isn’t just about paying tribute to Biggie’s music; it’s about capturing the essence of his storytelling and the raw emotion behind his words. From the Notorious Thugs prowling the streets to supernatural scenes that delve into themes of vulnerability and mortality\, this production weaves together a truly unforgettable experience. \n\n\n\nNeblett’s production is not merely a reflection but a powerful reimagining of hip-hop’s impact on society\, identity\, and art\, bringing the beats and rhymes of Brooklyn’s streets to the theatrical stage. \n\n\n\nShows on Friday\, May 24 & Saturday\, May 25.  \n\n\n\nTickets are free with RSVP.  \n\n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\n\nSCHEDULE \n\n\n\n6pm: Doors open; 90s hip-hop set by DJ Sean Malcolm\, Light refreshments \n\n\n\n8pm: Show begins. After launching in 2021 Grey’s has been featured in several festivals\, music videos\, and most recently in promotions for Bob Marley: One Love.Jasmin creates handmade headwraps and bodywraps to celebrate the ancient indigenous cultures of the past with modern influences of the present. \n\n\n\nAbout DJ Lovie \n\n\n\nLovie’s music discovery was born in the digital music age: a young lover of local radio and after-school MTV marathons\, her early mixes took shape in the form of burned CDs she made for friends. In relocating from her hometown of Washington\, D.C. to New York in August of 2020\, Lovie’s unique selection swiftly ushered her into New York’s local music scene. Within a year\, she’d earned a Lot Radio residency; and has since become a staple at notable venues throughout the city\, a resident of the beloved Coloring Lessons by muscle cars\, and a cofounder of Brooklyn’s sweetest party\, Soul Connection. Lovie’s sets guarantee a sweet\, soulful\, and spiritual selection\, as she interweaves soul\, disco\, and house into a sound that creates warmth\, and makes you move.
